About Your HOU Allocation

May 1, 2017 | 2 min to read

Scheduling for Hour of Devastation opens today, and your expected Prerelease allocation numbers are incoming.

Got questions? Before you call in, check out these four reminders—they could save you some hold time.

1. It's Based on Attendance for Aether Revolt—so it will likely be lower than Amonkhet.

Historically, "small" sets (expansions with fewer cards) perform slightly below "big" sets, like Kaladesh and Amonkhet. So, if your allocation went down, it's not just you—we anticipate a dip in attendance across the board.

Take this store as an example:

Example: Playset Games (Real Store, Fake Name)

Aether Revolt (AER) Amonkhet (AKH) Hour of Devastation (HOU)
Total Prerelease Packs 126 162 144
Baseline Prerelease Packs 90 108 108
Growth Prerelease Packs 36 54 36
Attendance 114 131 n/a

Playset Games will get 144 Prerelease packs for Hour of Devastation. That was based on attendance for Aether Revolt, where they drew 114 players out of a possible 126 (their total allocation).

2. You should make 100% sure all your Aether Revolt Prereleases were reported.

With the WER troubles on AER Prerelease weekend, it's worth your time to make absolutely sure that all of your events were reported correctly. If they weren't, that will affect your Hour of Devastation allocation.

If an event doesn't get reported in WER, it's as if it never happened. If your numbers plummeted, or if your attendance shot up but your allocation stayed flat, we might not have all the information.

Double check that all your events were reported. If they weren't, reach out.

However:

3. It's best to wait a few days before calling in.

We get a huge volume of calls after allocations go out, so you could be staring down a pretty painful wait in the phone queue if you call immediately. The phones usually settle down after four or five days, so try us then.

But definitely call before the scheduling window closes on May 21. After that, allocations will be locked in.

4. If you turn players away, we want to know.

Our goal is to estimate your attendance as close as possible without going over—come set launch, we don't want to see a lot of stores with surplus Prerelease packs on the shelves.

But if we came in dramatically short and you were forced to turn players away, we want to know. Keep a list of those players and reach out to Retail Support on the Monday after Prerelease.

However, please understand that list won't be factored into your next allocation automatically, nor will it guarantee an increase. But if you end up talking to us about boosting your numbers, it could help you make your case.

Of course, you won't get any allocation at all if you don't sign up for Prerelease.

So log into WER and schedule your Hour of Devastation events right away!
