Ease Your Dragons of Tarkir Prerelease Prep

March 2, 2015 | 2 min to read

In just a few weeks, the highly anticipated conclusion to the Khans of Tarkir block arrives—Dragons of Tarkir.

Here are some simple tips to help you stand out from the competition, save time, and make a great impression on players:

Before the Prerelease

Save time with pre-registration and new DCI number sign-ups.

Encourage pre-registration and new Wizards Account sign-ups before the event.

It will save you time on the day of the event and reduce time-in-line for players, which may help bring them back to your next event.

Help players get to know the Dragons of Tarkir clans.

Guide players to choose a clan that best suits them based on the "flavor" of the clan.

This creates a welcoming environment focused less on mechanics and winning and more on an enjoyable event.

The Dragon Clans

Dromoka: A fiercely defiant clan that embodies endurance. The Dromoka clan favors white and green mana.

Ojutai: The patient and wise clan that embodies cunning. The Ojutai clan favors white and blue mana.

Silumgar: A conceited and prideful clan that embodies ruthlessness. The Silumgar clan favors blue and black mana.

Kolaghan: The swift and unpredictable clan that embodies speed. The Kolaghan clan favors black and red mana.

Atarka: A ferociously strong clan that embodies savagery. The Atarka clan favors red and green mana.

During the Prerelease

Feature your Tarkir Dragonfury game in a prominent area.

At your Prerelease, players will take the form of a mighty dragon, choose a dragon clan to align themselves with, and then lay waste to their foes in the new Tarkir Dragonfury game.

Help less experienced players build their decks.

New or casual players may find deck building frustrating or embarrassing and then may leave early with these negative emotions tied to your store.

Avoid this by designating a dedicated staff member, judge, or experienced player to provide deck-building help.

Stay in the flavor of the set by referring to this helpful person as "Ojutai, the Wise" and give them a nametag, hat, or other easy-identifier decorated with an Ojutai twist.

After the Prerelease

Keep new players coming back!

When the event ends, your work isn't over! This is your chance to leave a lasting impression on the players you don't see regularly at your store.

Take the time to chat with new players during the event. Introduce yourself, ask what clan they chose, how they like the event.

As the event ends, invite them back to your store by giving them a copy of your event schedule with their name and a little flair on it. The flair could be something you learned about them, a fun nickname, or title.

This gives them a special, unique memory tied to your store making them more likely to come back!
