WPN Exclusive: Get Ikoria Commander Decks for Prerelease

WPN Exclusive: Get Ikoria Commander Decks for Prerelease

January 20, 2020 | 1 min to read

2020 is the year of Commander: there's a slew of brand new Commander decks coming throughout the year, plus the first ever Commander-based booster product, the first-ever Commander-based in-store play program, and more. . .and more and more and more.

The Wizards Play Network is in the front row for all of it, and it kicks off on April 17 at Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Prerelease: your Prerelease allocation will include an allocation of forty* Ikoria Commander Decks for casual side events.

Allocations will hit your inbox next week, and the Commander Decks won't be the only difference this time around. Here's what you need to know.

*Quantity varies by region. WPN members outside North American should check with their local office for exact quantities.

Commander Decks: Use for Commander Dueling

Every WPN member will see a certain number of Ikoria Commander Decks in their allocation. These are for Commander Dueling—that's what we're calling Open Dueling this time around.

If you've never taken advantage of Open Dueling before, it's a casual side event to be run alongside Prerelease. You'll accept an admission fee, then issue that player a deck.

It's a great option for players who want a peek at the new set, but don't have time for the main event. Or newer players who simply aren't comfortable building a Sealed Deck. Or players who didn't preregister before it sold out. Or even players who just want to get some battles in between rounds.

The decks will be available through your preferred distributor. If you want to change your preferred distributor, do it here before February 14.

WPN Premium: Allocation Factors in Theros Prerelease Party Attendance

Over the years, we've added play options to the Prerelease experience to make sure players get to enjoy the event however most appeals to them. Commander Dueling is one example. Prerelease Parties are another.

Prerelease Parties are meant as a more beginner-friendly experience, an option for players who can't do the main event. It's also meant to help WPN members move through their entire allocation of product by running casual side events.

Up until now, Tickets from Prerelease Parties haven't been factored into future Prerelease allocations. But with Ikoria, WPN Premium gets to be part of an experiment to see what happens if they are.

If you're WPN Premium, your Ikoria allocation will get a boost from any Tickets you accumulated from Theros Beyond Death Prerelease Parties. Once Prerelease weekend concludes, we'll take a look at the results from this experiment before determining what the next steps are.

Allocation Inquires: Contact Us Before February 14

Your forecasted allocation will hit your inbox next week. You'll get a second email around February 14 with your final numbers. They could be slightly different—sometimes we make adjustments once we have final sign up numbers, coordinated with distribution, etc.

But at that point, it's difficult to make changes. So if you notice any issues with your allocations, contact us before February 14.

Ikoria scheduling opens on Monday, January 27. Log into WER and schedule Prerelease to make sure you get your product!
