XLN: 5 Things You Need to Know

Ixalan brings a flood of new promos, a major Standard shake-up, pirates, dinosaurs, and every reason to expect big things.

Ixalan brings a flood of new promos, a major Standard shake-up, pirates, dinosaurs, and every reason to expect big things.

Here are five things you need to know:

1. Four sets rotate out of Standard.

Battle for Zendikar, Oath of the Gatewatch, Shadows over Innistrad, and Eldritch Moon all exit the Standard environment.

2. Buy-a-Box is better than usual.

With the release of Ixalan, we are sending all Core and above stores a special promo item to help drive booster box sales. In addition to the traditional Buy-a-Box card, qualifying stores will receive Buy-a-Box booster packs to distribute to customers who purchase a full booster box of Ixalan.

Note that you will receive individual copies of Burning Sun's Avatar as well as Buy-a-Box booster packs, which also contain a copy of that card. Players who purchase a full booster display of Ixalan should receive both the pack and the individual card.

Buy-a-Box booster packs are in English and Japanese only, including the copy of Burning Sun's Avatar contained inside. Individual copies of that promo card are available in all languages. Each market will also receive the card in the appropriate language.

3. There are a ton of new promos to help drive attendance and sales.

Your Ixalan kits should have arrived last week (minus Standard Showdown and Store Championship) with a whole host of new promo items aimed at supporting the set all season long.

Here's the breakdown of how to use them:

Open House: Your kit includes foil full-art cards from Ixalan, the first chance to take home a piece of the new set. Give them to all participants (while supplies last).

Friday Night Magic:Kits include sets of three different double-sided tokens, in quantities designed to last the entire Ixalan season. Distribute any of the three tokens each week, in any way you choose, but be careful to make sure you have enough tokens until Rivals of Ixalan season launches on January 19).

Standard Showdown: Each Standard Showdown booster contains a gorgeous Rebecca Guay land, never before available in foil. (These are shipping this week). Hand these out to the top performers.

Magic League: We added a promo card for any player who completes ten matches (while supplies last).

4. League players should hold onto their collection boxes.

Collection boxes for Ixalan League are also meant for Rivals of Ixalan League. Make sure your players know to keep these.

5. The event calendar creates a path to help further engage your players.

The WPN event calendar is designed to create a trajectory toward deeper investment in Magic. Players start with Open House and, with your help, engage with in-store Magic at the level they choose, with clear next steps always in front of them.

Open House → Prerelease → League, Friday Night Magic, Draft Weekend → Standard Showdown → Store Championship
