Accommodation For Health Uncertainties, Ikoria Prerelease and Beyond

To enable WPN members to take appropriate precautions to address COVID-19, Wizards will enact accommodation policies for Ikoria Prerelease.

With Prerelease on the horizon, many WPN members face difficult decisions as they weigh their anticipation for Ikoria against the safety of their communities. Organizers must be free to make those decisions without consideration for attendance-based promotions, Prerelease allocations, and so on.

We hope that with the following accommodations in place, organizers are enabled to choose what's best for their store and their communities. We will continue to monitor the situation and take additional action where appropriate.

Take-Home Prerelease Packs

For Ikoria Prerelease, we'll lift restrictions to allow stores to sell Prerelease Packs and Commander Decks for customers to take home, without participating in an in-store event.

If players do choose to take home a Prerelease Pack without participating in the main event, organizers may enroll those players in an "At-Home Prerelease" in Wizards Event Reporter so that their attendance will count toward future allocations.

Promo & Product Allocation Adjustments

While the health situation remains uncertain, we will take a "snapshot" of your Tickets, Engaged Players, and Activated Players. Thereafter, we will allocate Promo Packs, exclusive products, and so on, based off either the snapshot or your realtime numbers—whichever is higher.

Prerelease Allocation Adjustments

Under normal circumstances, a store’s Prerelease allocation is based on the highest Prerelease attendance in the last two Prereleases. However, any future Prerelease allocation that would include Ikoria will instead look at the highest attendance in the last three sets (excluding Core Set 2020).

Promo Pack/Product Multiplier

Because a store’s WPN metrics are considered on a rolling 12-month basis, low attendance during an uncertain health situation could adversely affect attendance-based allocations for one full year after that situation occurred.

In order to make sure affected stores receive adequate support, we will apply a multiplier to each store's metrics. Meanwhile, we will continue to monitor attendance and take additional action as appropriate.

Wizards Play Network Qualifiers

Please contact your local office if you'd like to discuss postponing a Wizards Play Network qualifier.

We recommend all WPN members review best practices for event management as provided by the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control. Please find additional information on Wizards' response to COVID-19 on Magic.Wizards.com.
