For the foreseeable future, we will not have Commander Nights as part of our supported events lineup. We hope this change frees up space for you to run every key event during Murders at Karlov Manor season, including Standard Showdown!

With your seasonal promos sorted, let's dive into a brief overview of key events this season. For additional details regarding any event, refer to the events page.

Prerelease (February 2 – 8, 2024)

The Murders at Karlov Manor Prerelease marks the completion of our 30th Anniversary Promo distribution; make the most of it with your players and get creative with the way you pass them out to your community.

Each Prerelease Pack will also contain one of three promos in addition to the traditional foil, year-stamped promo card. These additional traditional foil promos are Standard-legal but cannot be included in players’ Sealed deck during the event. Players can still use their year-stamped promo in their Prerelease Sealed deck.

The additional Prerelease promo card may be any one of the following:

  • Melek, Reforged Researcher
  • Tomik, Wielder of Law
  • Voja, Jaws of the Conclave

As your community is diving into the set, be sure to remind them of the puzzle elements to be uncovered—each product has its own puzzle to solve, a self-contained experience that will give the sleuths of your community some satisfying cases to crack!

Standard Showdown (February 9 – April 11, 2024)

As we continue to take steps to revitalize Standard, we're ushering in the return of Standard Showdown events! With an expanded Standard rotation, Standard Showdown gives your community even more time to hone their decks and refine their strategy with new cards, battling to win fun promos and prizes.

To help your Standard Showdown events hit the ground running, you'll receive two Year of the Dragon promos: Sarkhan Unbroken and Dragon's Servant. Provide Dragon's Servant to participants at the event, and Sarkhan Unbroken to the winner for the Standard Showdown event you schedule between February 10 – 18. Stores in the Asia-Pacific region will have different distribution for these promos.

For the rest of the season, you'll provide your top performers at Standard Showdown with Omenpath Basic Lands. The Omenpath Basic Lands will be full-art, traditional foil cards that showcase how some of our heroes have been traversing the planes of the Multiverse.

In addition, if you run two or more Standard Showdown events in the month of February, you'll receive an oversized Magic card with your Outlaws of Thunder Junction promotional kit, to be displayed in-store.

Open House (February 9 – 11, 2024)

One great opportunity to get interested new players started with Magic is at an Open House event. You can demo the game with Starter Kit or Jumpstart products that you have on-hand, or set players up with a mentor to play some Two-Headed Giant games with other newcomer-mentor pairs.

Provide each participant with a copy of the Open House promo; provide a second copy of the promo to players that bring a friend and to the friend they bring.

Pass out sticker sheets to interested participants, as well. Starting with Murders at Karlov Manor, you will be allowed to use these sticker sheets to support other events throughout the season at your discretion.

Reward players that bring a friend with the Bring-a-Friend promo, Cultivate—and be sure to give a copy to the new player, too.

Commander Party (February 16 – 18, 2024)

If your social Commander community enjoys playing their games with a fun twist, Commander Party is the event to attend. In your kit, you received Party Cards to provide to each player in pods of four; players will modify their Party Cards by selecting specific attributes.

Throughout their games of Commander, players will take turns asking "Yes or No" questions to each other, to find out more details about the identity of their fellow players. For players in the pod who guess an opponent's identity correctly, they will gain benefits that will give them an advantage during the game.

Provide each participating player with the promo card, Rogue's Passage. WPN Premium stores who achieved their designation prior to November 24 will receive foil versions of the promo card.

Store Championship (March 2 – 10, 2024)

For the foreseeable future, Store Championship is a Standard format only event. We encourage you to use Standard Showdown as a runway for your more competitive players to hone their skills, culminating in the Store Championship tournament.

Ravnica: Clue Edition Launch Party (February 23 – 25, 2024)

Players will purchase a copy of Ravnica: Clue Edition, gather a group of four players, crack open packs, and step into the roles of Ravnica's top detectives. They'll use evidence to determine the killer, the scene of the crime, and the weapon in this Clue-inspired spin on Magic: The Gathering.

There are two ways to win: be the first to solve the mystery or be the last suspect standing.

For the Ravnica: Clue Edition Launch Party event, we'll be sending promos you can use to support groups of four who purchase and play with a copy of Ravnica: Clue Edition in your store. Players will play Ravnica: Clue Edition out of the box, and each player will take home cards from their deck as well as Clue-inspired cards dealt to them from the start of the game. Alternatively, one player can purchase Ravnica: Clue Edition and play with a group; everyone in the group should receive the promo while the purchaser takes home the full product.

The winner of the group of four will take home any remaining cards as their prize, including the traditional foil Shock Land Box Topper and all remaining Clue-inspired cards in the product that were not dealt to other players.

Metrics Requirements Return: Use Wizards EventLink

Starting March 1, 2024, snapshot metrics will no longer be in effect. All WPN members must meet a baseline metric requirement to remain part of the network.

The current minimum requirements are 250 Tickets and 5 Engaged Players annually. WPN Premium retailers must achieve 1,500 Tickets, 30 Engaged Players, and 10 Activated Players annually.

All Magic: The Gathering events reported through Wizards EventLink, including At-Home Prerelease events, will count towards play metrics: Tickets, Engaged Players, and Activated Players. It's more important than ever to make sure you're reporting play in Wizards EventLink, be it from events or from casual play you capture in your store.

The return of metrics also means that we will no longer be using Theros: Beyond Death Prerelease numbers when determining your store's Prerelease allocation.

Prerelease allocations are currently determined by checking past reported Prerelease events, typically the two or three that precede the most recent. Until March of 2024, Theros: Beyond Death will also be included in the checked sets for stores that hosted that event. Your baseline Prerelease allocation is based on the highest total attendance among checked sets.

For example, your Murders at Karlov Manor Prerelease allocation is based on whatever was the highest attended among Theros Beyond: Death, March of the Machine, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth™, and Wilds of Eldraine. Depending on product availability, your allocation may not precisely match your highest total attendance.

With so many events on the horizon, make sure you're capturing all your play attendance in Wizards EventLink! It's the only way to ensure we provide you with the right amount of promo support for your community—so open up your calendar and start scheduling today.
