WPN + Square® POS FAQ Page

Q: What does the Square & WPN POS Partnership test entail?
A: We know that running a small business is complex. To that end, Wizards of the Coast is exploring a partnership with Square, a POS provider that enables small businesses every single day. Our initial test will consist of allowing WPN members that currently use Square to opt-in to the program, enabling us to seamlessly receive POS data from them. We plan to use this data to better inform how we can serve our WPN partners and explore new benefits.


Q: Why does Wizards of the Coast want my POS data?
A: Through our partnership with Square, we can provide enhanced business intelligence and operational support to help optimize your retail performance. The insights we gain through this collaboration will allow us to:

  • Improve product availability at key points of the sales cycle such as ensuring adequate availability at product launches.
  • Understand inventory positions across the channel to improve promotional support.
  • Understand the relationship between sales and play to improve our program offerings.
  • In addition to a better understanding of the channel, the Wizards Play Network team is also looking to provide new capabilities and scale for our retailers.

Q: Why was my store selected for this test?

A: For our test run of this program, we are working with stores that already use Square as their POS platform. You were contacted because you indicated in a past WPN survey that you use Square.


Q: Am I required to participate to stay in the WPN? Am I required to participate to maintain my WPN Premium status?

A: No, participation in this program is entirely voluntary and is not a requirement to maintain WPN membership or WPN Premium status.


Q: What action is needed on my end to participate in this? Will I have to manually submit POS data?

A: For now, all you need to do to participate is formally opt in to the program, which will allow Wizards of the Coast to receive POS data from your store. No manual data submissions required! Your data will be automatically sent to Wizards of the Coast directly through Square POS with no additional action on your end.


Q: Will I receive any rewards or incentives for participating in this test?

A: We are exploring potential future benefits we can provide to WPN members through this program, but for the initial phase there will not be any direct incentives provided to members that opt in. Participating requires little action on your end and improves our understanding of sell-through behavior at the retail level. Among other benefits, this data will allow us to refine our production and distribution timelines to better serve WPN members like yourself.

  • The Wizards Play Network team is also looking to provide new capabilities and scale for our retailer members. We will explore opportunities to drive cost reductions in POS processing and even reduced costs for POS hardware as part of this program.

Q: If I am no longer interested in participating, how can I opt-out?

A: You can opt-out of this program at any time. To opt-out, please submit via this form. In the drop down, simply select "POS Opt Out." Once received, your store will be disconnected from this program within 30 days and you will receive a confirmation email at that time.


Q: How will my sales data be used?

A: The sales data we receive will only be used to provide Wizards of the Coast with relevant insights into sales of our products.
