Commander Party Checklist

Prepare your players to face the growing Dragonstorm beginning April 18 with Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander Party.

Commander Party offers players a fun way to experience the Commander format with a Magic story-driven twist. For Tarkir: Dragonstorm, players align with a Tarkir clan and use a set of special clan abilities by tapping into the gathering power of the Dragonstorm. But the Dragonstorm can grow too strong, unleashing dragons across the battlefield!

You can schedule Commander Party events twice during the Tarkir: Dragonstorm play season: April 18–24 and May 16–22. Here is a rundown of details to help you host successful events!

Commander Party Promo: Dragonspeaker Shaman

Participants in your Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander Party events should receive a copy of the Dragonspeaker Shaman promo card while supplies last. Use these to encourage preregistration for your Commander Party events and have them ready to hand out at the start of each event.

How to Run Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander Party

Your marketing kit includes English language copies of the Commander Party materials you'll use during the event, including the Dragonstorm play aid. You can also download Commander Party materials in additional languages as needed.

Commander Party Play Aid for Tarkir: Dragonstorm

Place the Dragonstorm within easy reach of all players. Allow players to select a clan card to use during the match—they may choose any clan, and more than one player may select the same clan. Each clan card lists abilities that can be activated during play for a cost of faction counters.

Temur clan card Mardu clan card Sultai clan card Jeskai clan card Abzan clan card

Each player will need a set of faction counters to use during play. They should easily fit on the Dragonstorm and be distinguishable from other players' faction counters.

Gameplay

A player places one faction counter on the Dragonstorm whenever they do one of the following:

  • Cast a commander or Dragon spell.

  • Deal combat damage to an opponent with one or more creatures.

  • Cast a noncreature spell with mana value 4 or greater from their hand.

Once during a player's turn, they may activate as a sorcery one of the abilities listed on their clan card by removing the number of their faction counters specified.

At the start of each end step, if the Dragonstorm has fifteen or more total faction counters, each player with counters on it activates their last faction ability without paying its cost; remove all counters from the Dragonstorm.

Highlight Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander Decks

Players are very welcome to bring their own decks to Commander Party, but those who don't have decks can still enjoy the event with a preconstructed deck. This can be an opportunity to highlight the five new Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander decks as a way for them to quickly get into games.

Abzan Armor (White-Black-Green) Jeskai Striker (White-Red-Blue) Sultai Arisen (Black-Blue-Green)

Mardu Surge (Red-White-Black) Temur Roar (Green-Blue-Red)
