D&D Reference Cards: New Essential Accessories for Players and Dungeon Masters

Learn about the new D&D Reference Cards launching this August, featuring updated rules content, improved design, and strong sales potential for retailers.

Local game store early access (US, Canada, Asia Pacific, EMEA): August 4, 2026

This August, Dungeons & Dragons introduces the new Dungeons & Dragons Reference Cards products, a line of tabletop accessories designed to help players and Dungeon Masters quickly access important game information during play.

Available first through WPN stores during the two-week early access window beginning August 4, these decks update and expand on the success of the Spellbook Cards line while incorporating all additions and revisions from the 5.5E ruleset in the 2024 Core Rulebooks.

For retailers, D&D Reference Cards offer a flexible purchase for both new and existing D&D players, fitting perfectly alongside the Core Rulebooks and other D&D accessories that make gaming smoother, faster, and more immersive.

A Proven Product Line Reimagined

The new D&D Reference Cards replace the previous Spellbook Cards line, which sold millions of units globally over their lifespan.

This updated line builds on that success with:

  • More reference cards that include magic items and monsters
  • A refreshed visual design
  • Improved readability and organization
  • Exciting new art
  • Simplified pricing structure
  • Content updated for the 2024 Core Rulebooks

These decks are designed to reduce rulebook lookups at the table, making them useful tools for both players and Dungeon Masters.

Product Overview

The D&D Reference Cards launch with eight decks across three categories.

Spells

  • Number of decks: 3
  • MSRP per deck: $19.99
  • Primary audience: players
  • Card size: standard

Spell decks are divided by spell level: 0–1, 2–3, and 4–5. Cards have summaries and the full text of spells up to level 5.

Helpful icons, color coding, and improved organization make finding information during play faster and easier.

Magic Items

  • Number of decks: 2
  • MSRP per deck: $24.99
  • Primary audience: Dungeon Masters
  • Card size: standard

The two Magic Item decks are organized by item rarity (Common and Uncommon, Rare and Very Rare) making it easy for Dungeon Masters to find the right rewards for their adventures.

Each card features a full-color illustration and detailed item information, allowing DMs to hand treasures directly to players as memorable, tangible rewards. The decks include 120 pieces of new artwork, bringing magic items to life at the table.

Monsters

  • Number of decks: 3
  • MSRP per deck: $24.99
  • Primary audience: Dungeon Masters
  • Card size: double

Monster decks provide large creature cards that feature beautiful artwork that fills half or the entirety of one side of each card, plus stat blocks and encounter information needed to run monsters at the table.

Each deck is organized by theme—Animals and NPCs, Mystical and Menacing, and Fearsome and Ferocious—covering Challenge Ratings 0–5.

What's New?

We gathered feedback from retailers and players on the previous card decks to help shape this new line.

Enhanced Design

Cards feature more art, including brand-new art, and improved layouts with increased legibility, making them even easier to use during play and appealing when displayed on the tabletop.

Simplified Pricing

The previous product range included multiple price points across the assortment. The new line reduces this to just two MSRP tiers:

  • $19.99 for Spell decks
  • $24.99 for Magic Item and Monster decks

More Consistent Assortment

Decks within each category contain comparable volumes of cards and share similar packaging dimensions. This creates a more balanced assortment that makes shelf merchandising easier and supports more consistent sales across the line.

Cross-Sell Packaging

Packaging across the decks highlights related D&D products, including Core Rulebooks and other D&D Reference Cards, encouraging customers to explore additional items that complement their choices and expand their resources.

Guidance for Retailers

We recommend retailers carry the full range of D&D Reference Cards, merchandising all eight decks together and face-out to allow customers to quickly understand the different deck categories. Ideally, position them adjacent to the 5.5E 2024 Core Rulebooks whenever possible.

Because the line serves both players and Dungeon Masters, asking customers whether they're more frequently a player or a Dungeon Master in their games can help you make the right recommendations:

  • Players are most likely to be interested in the Spell decks.
  • Dungeon Masters are more likely to purchase Magic Item and Monster decks.

While all eight decks are designed to support stronger consistency across the range, stores may find the Spell category to be the most popular by volume, given their wide appeal among players. In particular, the Spells 0–1 deck is expected to be a top-seller within the launch assortment.
