Tips to Bring Duskmourn Standard Showdown Players to Store Championship

Build or boost your Standard community this Duskmourn play season with repeat events supporting the format.

Players have been exploring the creaky corridors of the plane-enveloping House, facing their fears around every corner. Starting September 27, Duskmourn: House of Horror Standard Showdown begins, challenging players to bring their Standard Constructed decks and face off in one-on-one battles to earn an awesome winner promo.

As you prepare for your events, keep today's tips top of mind.

Start a Standard league, if you haven't already.

With Standard Showdown, Store Championship, and even some of the Magic Spotlight Series events focusing on Standard as a format, you may have already started up a Standard league in your store. If you haven't, now is a great time to start one.

Recently, four Magic sets rotated out of Standard, and players are experimenting with how Duskmourn cards fit into their decks. There's more time than ever between now and the End-of-Year Store Championship, which gives you more opportunity to run regularly scheduled Standard events for the rest of the year.

Drive interest in Standard Showdown with the winner promo, Disdainful Stroke.

Standard Showdown is an event for players to hone their deck and practice new strategies, and those in your community who come to compete can aim to earn the weekly winner promo, Disdainful Stroke, with stunning artwork as part of the Cowboy Bebop collaboration.

You received a quantity in your promotional materials kit based on your community size—please provide one promo to the winner of your weekly event. If you were allocated more promos than needed to provide to each week's winner, you may provide additional promos to other players of the event at your discretion but be sure to reserve enough to cover the remainder of the season.

Bring players together at the End of Year Store Championship to battle for Top 8 and Winner promos.

You can schedule your Store Championship event on the day of your choosing until January 5, 2025. This scheduling flexibility allows you to position Store Championship when it most benefits your players. Store Championship is an opportunity for your players to come together and battle it out for commemorative promos.

For Duskmourn, the promos are:

  • Chromatic Sphere – Store Championship participation
  • Reality Smasher – Store Championship Top 8
  • Full-Art Void Winnower – Store Championship Winner

Use repeat play incentives to keep players coming back every week.

Do you have a stamp card that staff fills out for each event a player participates in at your store? Have you started an in-store league that ladders up to additional prizing for participants or winners? Or is your repeat play incentive something completely different?

No matter what you choose, ensure your strategy resonates with your community. If an idea isn't working, don't be afraid to try something completely new! Building up a Standard community may take time and patience; even so, cultivating repeat play habits carries loads of benefits for your store.

Keep your calendar filled with events so new players can find you.

If you attracted new players to your Magic scene at Duskmourn: House of Horror Prerelease, make sure they can find more events at your store to play in! When players are directed to the Store & Event Locator, you want your events to be scheduled ahead of time in EventLink so they show up for local players.

Head to Wizards EventLink and get your series of Standard events scheduled now!
