Modern Horizons 3 Prerelease Planning Guide

It's almost time—Modern Horizons 3 Prerelease starts June 7. Are your players ready to meet their new forever favorites?

Modern Horizons 3 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor releases, bringing powerful new cards to shake up the metagame and bringing favorites from Magic's history to join the Modern era. Players have so many options to expand, customize, and build their collections, and it all starts right at Prerelease!

Prerelease runs from June 7 – 13; use the guide below to prep your store and staff for a power-packed Prerelease, and make sure you get your event scheduled as soon as possible.

Advertise All Week with Downloadable Marketing Materials

These are the final days leading up to the big event, so make the most of them! Whether you alert your community to upcoming events through Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, or through a community Discord, it's worth drawing attention to this epic event to capture last-minute registrations.

We have two variants of a Prerelease ad you can use on our marketing materials page: one that matches the Prerelease packaging, and another featuring epic Concept Eldrazi art found in the set.

Guide Players to Prerelease Resources Ahead of the Event

While your Modern community may be strong, you may find several players returning to play Modern Horizons 3 Prerelease after skipping a few sets—for those wanting to hit the ground running, tell them to keep their eyes on DailyMTG, where they'll find Gavin Verhey's Prerelease Primer article in the days leading up to the big event.

If they don't have the time to peruse before your event, you might consider giving everyone playing a brief overview of how Prerelease works after your opening announcements, before the deck building period begins.

Share Your Event Schedule to Players to Build Repeat Play Habits

It's always a good idea to build repeat play habits within your community whenever you can—and Prerelease continues to be a great place to highlight your upcoming Magic events to players. Bring players back with Modern Horizons 3 Draft events, Friday Night Magic, and more!

Whether it's shown on a display screen in-store or you opt to pass out flyers to players in attendance at Prerelease, getting the word out on upcoming events encourages players to return throughout the season to continue exploring the set.

Encourage Players to Grab Product In-Store with Prerelease Early Sales

Additionally, Prerelease Early Sales continues in WPN stores around the globe (excluding Japan), allowing you to sell the full product suite to customers right at Prerelease.

Those who purchase or pick up the following in your store will earn a copy of the Buy-a-Box promo, Flusterstorm:

  • Sealed Modern Horizons 3 Play Booster Display
  • Sealed Modern Horizons 3 Collector Booster Display
  • One of any Modern Horizons 3 Collector's Edition Commander Decks

Some Modern fans may recall that Flusterstorm was the Buy-a-Box promo for Modern Horizons, which introduced the card to the Modern format. We couldn't resist the opportunity to bring this popular card back in a stunning retro frame for Modern Horizons 3, and we hope your community enjoys the nod to Magic's history.

It's the final stretch before the event—so make sure your event is scheduled in Wizards EventLink so you can maximize the effect of your final marketing push!
