For twenty-five years, Draft Boosters have been our flagship product. But they're built for drafting, and when most fans open a booster, they're simply cracking it open to see what's inside. So, we wanted to create a new product that better serves that experience.
The Set Booster is that product. In this video, we'll dig into what's inside a Set Booster. We hope you and your players are eager to crack open your first Set Boosters when Zendikar Rising releases on September 25!

Hi everyone! Nelson Brown here, your WPN community manager!
I want to take a minute today to talk you through a whole new pack opening experience: Set Boosters. For twenty-five years, Draft Boosters have been our flagship product. But we know that most players simply crack open their packs instead of drafting them, so we wanted to create a new product that better serves them.
This new booster product revolutionizes the pack opening experience, making each card a thrilling new chapter. The first Set Boosters land with Zendikar Rising. Let’s dig into what’s inside. I can’t show you Zendikar Rising cards yet, but I can show you what this would have looked like if we had done Set Boosters for Core Set 2021.
We open with an Art Card slot. These are similar to what came in Modern Horizons Draft Boosters, with a new twist: 5% of the time your art card will come in a “signature” version that stamps the artist’s signature on the front in gold foil.
Next comes a basic land, which will be foil 15 percent of the time.
Six common and uncommon cards follow. Each set, the full list of commons will be sequenced together so neighboring cards connect by theme, mechanic, or creative details. Then we’ll do the same for the uncommons. Each set booster grabs sections from these two lists, and sometimes it’ll grab more uncommons than commons, allowing for the possibility of 6 uncommons in a single booster!
Next, in the middle of the pack we’ve got some fireworks. This single card slot changes with each set, highlighting what’s special. Think showcase cards or other special frames.
Two wildcard rarity slots follow, with a chance for anything from common to mythic. The next slot is the traditional rare slot you’re familiar with from Draft Boosters.
The second to last slot is a foil! That’s right: every Set Booster contains at least one foil. Players love them, so we wanted to find more opportunities to get foils into their hands.
Our last card is a token or ad card, with an exciting twist. Twenty five percent of the time this will be replaced by a card from “The List.” The List contains beloved, quirky, and often sought-after cards from Magic’s history, printed just as they originally appeared but with the small Planeswalker symbol in the lower left corner. These cards aren’t entering Standard or part of the main set, but offer a chance for an extra throw in to make opening a Set Booster even more special.
Set Boosters were designed from the ground up to create memorable pack opening experiences. But don’t worry, Draft Boosters aren’t going anywhere. We hope you and your players are eager to crack open your first Set Boosters with Zendikar Rising!
