Current Play Metrics Update and February Look-Ahead

Review the current status on play metrics and get a roundup of key dates coming in February.

In 2020, play metrics were temporarily deactivated to allow WPN members to grow their allocations in regions where events can be run safely without penalizing communities that were not yet ready to host face-to-face gatherings.

Today, we'll cover the current situation regarding play metrics, as well as give you an overview of events to keep your play momentum going in February.

Current Status of Play Metrics

We do not have a current anticipated date for metrics reactivation at this point in time. We will provide at least 6 months' notice prior to their reactivation. Until the end of the grace period, promo and product allocations will be based on live metrics or the Q1 2020 metric snapshot, whichever is higher.

As always, all Magic events reported through Wizards EventLink, including Webcam and At-Home events, will count towards play metrics: Tickets, Engaged Players, and Activated Players.

Play Metrics Explained

Your play metrics are data collected and used by the WPN team to help track the growth of your in-store play. There are three total areas that we consider when discussing play metrics:

  • Tickets. Tickets are the total number of entries across all your Magic events in a rolling calendar year; all manner of play counts, and tickets count the same player multiple times.

  • Engaged Players. This refers to players who have played at your store six or more times in the past rolling calendar year, regardless of format.

  • Activated Players. Primarily used by stores on the Path to WPN Premium, Activated Players are players that are in their first year of in-store play, and have joined six events at your store, regardless of format.

Growing your community to get more tickets opens numerous opportunities for your store where you can begin considering ways to boost repeat play habits and turn tickets into Engaged Players.
