Due to continued manufacturing delays because of COVID-19, Jumpstart’s previously announced tabletop release date will be shifting to July 17. Jumpstart Prerelease has been removed from the calendar and replaced with a launch event.
Here are the dates you need to know:
June 22: Core Set 2021 Prerelease kits ship
June 26: Core Set 2021 Prerelease, Core Set 2021 Magic Arena Release
July 3: Core Set 2021 Release
July 17-19: Jumpstart Launch Event, Jumpstart Magic Arena Release
A lot has changed since we last talked about Jumpstart. Here's a quick review of what Jumpstart is and how it works before we dive into the updated event specifics.
Jumpstart is a new kind of play experience inside a new kind of booster pack. At its foundation, it's simple. Grab two boosters, shuffle them together, and you’re ready to go. But a closer look reveals a rich, intricate play experience unlike anything in Magic.
Each Jumpstart booster includes 20 cards. All 20 cards fit a theme, and most themes have multiple variations—enough to make 121 possible 20-card lists inside any given pack.
Themes range from the familiar ("Garruk") to the curious ("Doctor"), and two themes sometimes come together to form an unlikely mishmash ("Doctor Garruk"). And certain, extra-special "Mythic Rare" packs don't have variations at all—just the one card list.
Jumpstart is closely tied to Core Set 2021, but it's a stand-alone product, full of basic lands with magnificent art printed for the first time in Jumpstart boosters, 37 new cards that are legal in Eternal formats, and almost 500 reprints.
Jumpstart Prerelease has been removed from the calendar and replaced with a launch event.
The Jumpstart Launch Event can be scheduled in Wizards Event Reporter at any point over the event weekend (July 17–19). When you schedule, run an all-day "Player List Only" event.
To continue supporting regions that are affected by and recovering from COVID-19, players don't need to play in store to count towards your Jumpstart Launch Event—add any player who purchases two Jumpstart boosters from your store to your Jumpstart Launch Event.
In addition, any player who buys two boosters from your store gets a promo card, which we'll show off once we're closer to the event.
The delay of Jumpstart is certainly unfortunate, and we look forward to a return to better lining up our tabletop and digital releases once we can ensure the continued health and safety of those who help make our game possible.
