Maria Bartholdi has the download on each of the five crime families ruling the underworld of New Capenna and how to leverage faction-focused product in marketing to your players for events.
Hi, I’m Maria Bartholdi, MTG Caster and Content Creator. Today, I’m partnering with the Wizards Play Network team to introduce you to the factions of Streets of New Capenna, and explain how they weave through the set’s marketing, products, and events.
Streets of New Capenna is a brand-new world for Magic. The glitz of a bustling city hides a crime underworld ruled by five family factions.
Let’s meet them:
The Obscura are powerful wizards and mystics, but they use their power to con and blackmail.
The Maestros are old-money vampires who love the finer things and are willing to kill to get them.
Tough-as-nails artisans, the Riveteers can break buildings as easily as kneecaps.
A fun-loving sect of druids, the Cabaretti expect loyalty from their followers (or else).
And last but not least, the Brokers are a law firm with demonic ties.
Three key products have factional identity: Prerelease Packs, Commander Decks, and Theme Boosters. Early marketing will guide players to identify with a faction and you should join in: Here’s why:
When a player identifies with a faction, they’ve already taken their first step towards selecting a Prerelease Pack or purchasing a Commander Deck. With Set, Draft, and Collector Boosters players can get more of their favorite faction and explore others.
With Streets of New Capenna, all three types of booster boxes are supported by both a box topper and a Buy-a-Box promo card. These eleven gorgeous regional box toppers mean that depending on the language of the Booster Box, customers will find a different box topper. Cultural consultants helped identify a ‘Golden Age’ for each region, and that’s exemplified in the card art.
A brand-new event, Commander Launch Party, will support the five new Commander Decks. Timed with the set release, players will receive a promo card for purchasing one of the new Commander decks and playing with it in your event. Repeat purchases and play can earn additional promos!
So that Commander Play can shine outside the week of Prerelease, there will no longer be Commander Dueling at Prerelease.
Understanding the factions of Streets of New Capenna is the key to a successful season. From marketing to the product lineup, it’s all about the families.
