What Is It?

All sanctioned Magic: The Gathering play falls into one of two categories: Casual and Tournament. A Tournament requires eight players, three rounds, and they must be run in one of the formats listed below.

If you want to run an event that doesn't meet the requirements, you absolutely can. Just schedule it as a Casual event.

What Formats Can Be Run?

Standard
Booster Draft
Sealed Deck
Modern
Legacy
Vintage

You can also run those formats as Two-Headed Giant.

Best Practices

1. Enter start times into the "Event Information" field in WER. This feeds into our store and event locator, which many players rely on.

2. Schedule events early. Maximize exposure in the store and event locator by scheduling events at least a month out.

3. If fewer than eight players turn out, cancel it and schedule a casual event in its place. Fewer than eight players doesn't mean the event can't fire. It just means it has to be sanctioned as Casual.
